Mobile Coffee Trailer Buying Guide: What to Check First

A mobile coffee trailer is priced by its espresso setup, not its square footage. Used beverage trailers list from roughly $10,900 to $93,500. Eastcoast Concessions builds coffee and espresso trailers to order from $32,000, with most between $45,000 and $75,000. The machine's electrical draw decides most of the rest.

Two things set the price of a coffee trailer, and the trailer is the smaller of them. A used unit is priced by how much of somebody else's espresso setup you can keep. A custom build is drawn around the machine you intend to pull shots on, because that machine decides the electrical service, the water capacity, and the counter run.

Espresso setupPower it needsWhat the trailer has to carry
1 group, 1 grinder120V, about 15 amps30-amp service or a modest generator
2 groups, 2 grinders240V single phase, dedicated 20-amp circuit (NEMA L6-20)50-amp service, heavier wiring, a generator sized to the machine
3 groups, high volume240V single phase, dedicated 30-amp circuit (NEMA L6-30)50-amp service and a panel built for it

Eastcoast Concessions builds coffee and espresso trailers, not coffee carts. A cart will not carry 240-volt service, fresh and waste tanks sized to code, and a three-compartment sink, which is where most coffee builds end up. Sizes and what pushes a build up the range are covered in food trailer sizes and what makes one cost more. Every figure here that is not Eastcoast Concessions' own published pricing is industry research and should be read as industry-typical.

What the price actually buys

Used beverage and coffee trailers list from about $10,900 for an older 6-by-10 to $93,500 for a late-model build, with most active inventory between $25,000 and $60,000. Those are industry listing prices, not Eastcoast Concessions pricing. The spread is not really about the box. It is about whether the espresso machine, grinders, water system and electrical panel came with it and are worth keeping. The cost drivers behind those numbers are broken out in what a coffee build costs and how to choose one.

A custom coffee trailer from Eastcoast Concessions starts at $32,000, with most builds between $45,000 and $75,000, and roughly 8 to 14 weeks of build time.

Power is the number that decides the build

Spec the electrical service to the machine, then build the trailer around it. A single-group machine runs on standard 120-volt power at roughly 15 amps and is the only setup that stays simple. A two-group machine needs 240-volt single-phase power on a dedicated 20-amp circuit, wired for a NEMA L6-20 plug. A three-group needs a dedicated 30-amp circuit and an L6-30.

Grinders, a water heater, refrigeration and lighting all draw on top of that. Size a generator to the machine rather than to the trailer, or you will trip breakers during the morning rush - the one hour the business exists for. More on that in power, water and what actually fits in a mobile coffee build.

Water, waste, and the sink plan review asks about

New Jersey requires a mobile unit's sewage holding tank to be sized 15 percent larger in capacity than its water supply tank. That ratio, not the tank you would prefer, sets the fresh-water capacity you can actually carry. Most health departments also want a three-compartment sink for warewashing plus a separate handwash sink, and a coffee-only menu does not exempt you from either.

Feed the machine through a pressure reducer set to a maximum of 40 psi. Do not run distilled or reverse-osmosis water through a commercial espresso boiler. Filtration is a real line item, not an accessory.

Why a coffee build outgrows a cart

People search for coffee carts, and at the start the search makes sense: one machine, one grinder, a folding table's worth of footprint. It stops making sense the moment a plan reviewer asks where the three-compartment sink is, or a venue offers 240-volt service the setup cannot use.

Eastcoast Concessions does not build coffee carts. What gets built here is a coffee or espresso trailer, because that is what carries a two-group machine, fresh and waste tanks sized to code, a sink line, and a counter two people can work at without colliding. If the honest answer to your menu really is a cart, buy a cart - this is not the shop for it.

What ordering a build looks like

Premium Box builds: $495 Virtual Blueprint to start, credited toward the 25 percent deposit. All other builds: a 25 percent deposit starts your build. A further 25 percent is due four weeks later, and the remaining 50 percent is due at pickup. Before ordering, call 201-425-8573 or schedule a consultation. Production starts once you approve the drawings, and the quote terms put completion at approximately 12 to 14 weeks from that approval - the clock starts at drawing approval, not at deposit.

Every trailer is collected in person from the shop at 6 Leo Place in Wayne, New Jersey. There is no delivery. Buyers arranging their own transport should plan the haul before the build is finished.

Common questions

How much does a coffee trailer cost?

Used beverage and coffee trailers list from about $10,900 to $93,500, with most between $25,000 and $60,000. Those are industry listing prices, not Eastcoast Concessions pricing. Eastcoast Concessions coffee and espresso trailers start at $32,000, with most builds between $45,000 and $75,000.

What power does a coffee trailer need?

A single-group machine runs on 120 volts at roughly 15 amps. A two-group needs 240-volt single-phase power on a dedicated 20-amp circuit with a NEMA L6-20 plug, and a three-group needs a dedicated 30-amp circuit with an L6-30. Size shore power and any generator to the machine, not to the trailer.

Does Eastcoast Concessions build coffee carts?

No. Eastcoast Concessions builds coffee and espresso trailers. A full espresso setup needs 240-volt power, fresh and waste water tanks sized to code, and a three-compartment sink alongside a separate handwash sink - more than a cart carries.
